We had the exciting task of turning a 1930s derelict hospital into a space that could be used as a busy, stylish working environment for start-up companies. Newtons were the principal contractor of this six-month refurbishment, involving two clients, HS2 and Camden Collective.
We were responsible for the complete refurbishment of five floors of the building. This began with making the site safe by securing the perimeter, installing metal vehicle access gates and a security cabin complete with CCTV and making the roof and external structure secure. We then made safe interior walls and surfaces with some demolition and structural works involved, completely refurbished communal areas, designed and installed new lighting, heating and air-conditioning systems, created a working office space and installed access control and fire alarm systems.
This was a large project that required detailed planning, and was delivered under Construction Design Management (CDM) requirements to high standards, within budget and on time. We produced all designs for all M&E works and handled all of the electrical installations and the large majority of building and general refurbishment works. Contractors were employed and managed for crane hire and specialists external fire escape removal, air-conditioning removal and installation.
“We thoroughly enjoyed working with Newtons over the past year and would highly recommend them as a company. Above all, it is the finer details that make Newtons such great contractors to work with; they are personable, reliable, in constant communication with updates and we are looking forward to many more projects with them in the future.”
